Grey's Anatomy, with Katherine Heigl, is the next big hit Grey's Anatomy is the next big hit - The Laf - A&E: "The show thrives on its varied assortment of characters in the frenetic hospital environment. The main character, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), is an intern who is also the daughter of a noted pioneer surgeon. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) is the highly competitive intern who avoids any favors whatsoever in order to succeed on her own. 'Izzie' Stevens (Katherine Heigl) paid her way through medical school by modeling, but her 'airhead' personality reflects her low self-esteem in all her tasks. George O'Malley (T.R. Knight) is the intern who 'always manages to say the wrong thing at the wrong time.' The intern all the other interns 'love to hate' because of his arrogance is Alex Karey (Justin Chambers). Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), nicknamed 'The Nazi,' is the doctor in charge of 'whipping these interns into shape.' This is exactly what she plans on doing, and her personality is bitter and cruel to the point of being amusing. Derek Shephard (Patrick Dempsey) is the attractive, flirtatious surgeon with a forbidden attraction to Meredith. " Wednesday, March 30, 2005
ABC's 'Grey's Anatomy'. with Katherine Heigl, Does Well in Ratings Adrants: ABC's 'Grey's Anatomy Does Well in Ratings: "While a show would have to be an absolute horror to fail following Desperate Housewives, gen Y ER-like medical show Grey's Anatomy did quite well. It retained 67 percent of Housewives' numbers and delivered 16.2 million viewers. Not bad considering the show's slot it took temporarily, Boston Legal, averages 12.6 million. Creatively, the show's not bad. The angst-ridden voice over might get tired though as well as the cleanly defined, neatly categorized characters. Starring 80's icon Patrick Dempsey, Sideways' Sandra Oh, hottie Katherine Heigl and intriguingly cute Ellen Pompeo, the show has some promise as long as it doesn't become too self absorbed with itself. Hopefully, as the show grows, the characters will as well. There's potential here but the premiere was no blockbuster." Wednesday, March 16, 2005
A spoonful of satire helps 'Side Effects', with Katherine Heigl USATODAY.com - A spoonful of satire helps 'Side Effects' "Side Effects centers on the launch of an antidepressant called Vivexx. But don't expect an expose a la Michael Moore, who revealed in September, right around the time Merck pulled Vioxx off the market, that he's now taking on the pharmaceutical industry. There's no such drug as Vivexx, and there's no such drug company as Braden-Andrews, which markets it. Slattery-Moschkau's film is a satirical look at how prescription drugs are marketed, with romance and family relations added to the mix. "I'm not Michael Moore," she says. "I tried to provide some of the counter-arguments for people to be thinking about. We have to look at both sides of the story." For example, in one scene, Slattery-Moschkau's alter ego, Karly Hert - played by Katherine Heigl, who will appear in ABC's new TV series Grey's Anatomy - defends her profession to her boyfriend. "What about all the patients that are helped?" she asks. Slattery-Moschkau wonders whether patients also might have been hurt because their doctors depended on drug company sales representatives, a number of whom had been drama or music majors in college, for information. "Basically, you were hired if you were a star athlete or they liked the way you looked," she says. "They wanted to give doctors something that would be a nice break in their day." 'Grey's Anatomy', with Katherine Heigl, gets slot after 'Housewives' Philadelphia Inquirer | 02/23/2005 | 'Grey's Anatomy' gets slot after 'Housewives': "The network has slotted the medical drama Grey's Anatomy for a four-week tryout at 10 p.m. Sundays starting March 27 - following Desperate Housewives, the top-rated show on the network. The female-centric Grey's could scarcely ask for a stronger lead-in. Boston Legal, which was scheduled to be in reruns at that time, will take a break to accommodate Grey's Anatomy. ABC says it will return to the schedule on Sunday, April 24. Grey's Anatomy stars Ellen Pompeo (Old School, Catch Me If You Can) as Meredith Grey, the daughter of a famous surgeon who's now trying to forge her own medical career as a first-year surgical resident in Seattle. The cast also features Sideways star Sandra Oh as a competitive colleague, Katherine Heigl (Roswell), Patrick Dempsey (Sweet Home Alabama) and Isaiah Washington (Hollywood Homicide, Out of Sight)."
